The Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) was notified of the presence of "biofoul," a general accumulation of microorganisms, plants, algae, or small animals, on the ship's hull.

02

To protect marine ecosystems, all incoming international ships are required to undergo hull cleaning to remove biofoul and potentially harmful marine organisms.

03

As a result of the cleaning process, the Viking Orion had to miss several stops on its itinerary, but is expected to depart for Melbourne on January 1st.

This is not the first cruise ship-related incident to occur in Australia this summer season.
